Reel-to-Real: The Movies Musical

alt

altIn a round-the-world trip via New York and back again, Reel-to-Real delivers the sensational iconic 20th century sing-a-long hits of the great MGM and Warner movies with style, clarity and heaps of pizzazz. Slightly more intimate and contemporary in its production, with projected scenery acting as a sort of interactive prop repertoire, it breathes new life into time-honoured Broadway and movie hits.

Woven together into one unified storyline, the amalgamation reveals the thematic consistency and interchangeability of the genre. Nevertheless the show remains timelessly entertaining and uplifting. It has light-hearted, humorous moments throughout, particularly through the use of props, and audiences familiar with them will get a fond chuckle remembering the original films. Audiences familiar with an authentic British accent may also get a laugh – but no harm done!

Beyond the all-American cheesiness of the production there is something very satisfying and indulgent in watching a cast of great singers and dancers belting out the classics. It’s got an exciting energy, it’s engaging and accessible – you could take just about anyone along and they’d be hard pushed pretending not to like it.

Go on, take your grumpiest friend, they may well go home grinning!
